My Savings This Week

in grocery, My Savings

Let me start by saying that I did not do the bulk of the grocery shopping this week! My husband is many things – a supportive husband, caring father, God-fearing man– but a frugal shopper he is NOT! He’s actually a really frivolous spender and an impulse buyer by nature! I guess it’s true when they say that opposites attract.

Nonetheless, we did find some pretty good savings this week and last week, particularly at Target and Publix. I went absolutely nuts in the Target clearance section. I found a ton of kid’s clothes for 50-75% off and just racked up! There were also really cute finds in the Dollar Bin I just couldn’t resist. My daughter’s way too young for math flash cards, but that didn’t stop me from throwing them in the cart.

Here’s a snapshot of my Target trip:

8 cotton pants @ 1.00 each
4 shirts @ $1.75 each
4 pairs of jeans @ 1.75 or 3.50 each
2 packs of onesies at $4.98 (plus I used my $1 off coupons)
Double pack of PJs at $4.98
1 dress @ 4.98
7 Dollar Bin goodies (flashcards, placemat, coloring books)
Plus:
(2) 24 oz containers of Enfagrow @ $21.99
- (used (2) $7/1 Enfamil coupons from manufacturer)
I got back a $5 gift card and used it to purchase (1) 100-Pack of Playtex Drop-ins @7.98

It’s hard to estimate my exact savings, but I know the amount of stuff I bought would have run me a lot more at other stores.

Now to the groceries:

Here’s a summary of hubby’s trip:

Total Spent: $81.04
Total Saved: $6.07

*sigh* He tried. In his defense, he did get some more meats and produce, although almost none of them were on sale and certainly would’ve been cheaper at the Farmer’s Market!

Here’s a summary of my trip:

Total Spent: $18.06
Total Saved: $31.96

When I got home and showed him the receipt, I said, “That is how grocery shopping is done!” He responded, “That is why you’ll be doing it next time!” C’est la vie!
